Hanja Forest Terms of Service

Effective: October 14, 2026

1. Purpose

These terms govern the use of Hanja Forest (the "app") provided by Lion and the Lab ("we"). For copies downloaded from the App Store, the Apple Standard EULA also applies.

2. The service

515 unique Hanja through level 5 of the 한국어문회 and 대한검정회 lists, plus linked word and idiom lessons
Card collection through meaning checks and stroke-order writing, in batches of 3, 5 or 10
Rule-based battles with a deck of up to eight collected cards across 36 forest missions
On-device records for up to six children, backup and restore, and an optional parent account

Core study and battles work offline without signing in. Records are stored on the device.

3. Scope of the learning content

Dictionary meanings and the game effects imagined from them are labeled separately.
Grade practice is authored in the app. It is not an official exam or certification and does not reproduce official questions or formats.
Linked words, idioms and stories are app lessons, not official assigned vocabulary.
Some imaginative card descriptions were prepared in advance with OpenAI and reviewed. Scores, health and outcomes are computed by the game rules; the descriptions never change results.
We do not guarantee learning speed or exam results. Please report content errors to the contact below.

4. Parent account and records

The parent account is optional and is created with an email address after the parent gate. Please keep its credentials safe.
The account can be deleted in the app at any time; deletion removes the account and its server data. Device records remain separately.
Importing a backup code replaces the whole family record with the selected one. Records from two devices are never merged automatically; the previous record is kept as a recovery copy.

5. Pricing and earlier subscriptions

Learning, writing, card collection and battles in the current app are free, with no ads and no in-app subscription prompts.
If you bought a subscription in the app's earlier release, check or cancel it in the subscription settings of the store you paid through (Apple or Google Play). The parent space also links to them after the parent gate.
Updating or deleting the app does not cancel an existing subscription. Payments and refunds follow each store's policy.

6. Voice features

Narration plays AI voices prepared in advance with Typecast and bundled in the app; no internet or microphone permission is needed. Choosing cards by voice is optional, and its availability and network needs depend on the device and speech service. Buttons work for everything.

7. Use of content

The app and its content (card art, stories, voices) may be used for personal learning and play. Copying, distributing or commercial use without permission is not allowed. Rights in the app's design, software and content belong to us; bundled open-source software and fonts follow their own licenses.

8. Children

The app is designed for parents and children to use together. Guardians should oversee a child's use. The parent account, backup and restore, external links and earlier-subscription management sit behind a parent gate.

9. Limitations

We cannot recover on-device records lost through device failure, app deletion or data reset. Keep a backup code if needed.
Optional features that rely on networks or outside services (speech recognition, authentication) may be unavailable at times.
These terms do not limit any rights you have under applicable law.

10. Changes

Changes to features or significant data handling are reflected in the app description and on this page. If you do not agree with updated terms, you may stop using the app and delete the parent account.

Addendum

These terms take effect on October 14, 2026.
The previous terms were written for the app's earlier release as "Battle Simulator" (paid subscriptions, content reporting, external image sources) and do not apply to the current Hanja Forest app.
