Gomgom Terms of Service

Effective: October 15, 2026

These Terms apply to the Gomgom app (formerly FATHOM, Google Play package com.lionandthelab.fathom) and related web services.

Article 1 (Purpose)

These Terms set out the conditions and procedures for using the Gomgom app and related services (the “Service”) provided by Lion and the Lab (the “Company”), and the rights and obligations of the Company and users.

Article 2 (Definitions)

  • “Guardian” means a parent or legal guardian aged 18 or older who signs up for the Service, creates and operates the account, and manages child profiles. The user of the Service is the guardian.
  • “Child” means an elementary or middle-school student who uses the Service together with the guardian through a child profile the guardian has created.
  • “Learning records” means records created while using the Service, such as a child’s thoughts, essays and drafts, handwriting photos and transcribed text, conversations and debates with the AI coach “Gomgom”, and quiz results.
  • “Gomgom Premium” means the expanded usage offered through a paid subscription.

Article 3 (The Service)

Gomgom is a reading, writing and debate learning tool whose account a guardian operates and uses together with elementary and middle-school children. It provides:

  • Grade-level reading passages, printable as PDF
  • Writing thoughts and essays, saved on the device
  • Guided-card debates and a thought map
  • Learning records and reports for guardians
  • A kids reading mode that only a guardian check can unlock
  • AI features: AI grading and feedback, question-led conversations (text and voice) and debates with the AI coach Gomgom, and handwriting transcription. As of October 15, 2026 these AI features are being prepared and are not available; they are provided only when all conditions in Article 5 are met.

Article 4 (Agreement and Accounts)

  • Only a guardian aged 18 or older may sign up and make payments. The guardian creates and operates the account; children do not sign up or pay.
  • Only the guardian may enter child profiles (nickname and grade) and other information about the child. A child’s learning activity, including entering writing, photos or speech, takes place in the guardian-operated account under the guardian’s supervision.
  • Guardians may sign up using a sign-in method offered in the app, such as Google, Apple (iOS), Kakao or Naver. Some trial features are available without signing in.
  • Guardians must keep account information accurate and must not transfer or lend the account to anyone outside the family.
  • Guardians supervise the child’s use of the Service. Please use a nickname instead of the child’s legal name.

Article 5 (Guardian Consent)

  • The guardian agrees to the child’s use of the Service and should review in the Privacy Policy how the child’s information is processed.
  • Account sync of learning records and AI features are provided only after the separate guardian consent and verification process described in the Privacy Policy. AI features additionally require the Company to confirm that the service can be provided. Guardians may withdraw consent at any time, which restricts the related features.
  • The Company may temporarily suspend AI features, for example while confirming data protection conditions. Reading passages, guided-card debates and saving records on the device remain available.

Article 6 (Gomgom Premium Subscription)

  • Free use may have limits, such as the number of AI coaching sessions. Gomgom Premium expands those limits. The specific benefits and limits are shown on the in-app purchase screen.
  • While AI features cannot be provided, new Gomgom Premium purchases are paused (paused as of October 15, 2026). Restoring existing purchases and managing or canceling subscriptions remain available during this time.
  • Gomgom Premium is a one-month subscription. The price is the amount shown on the App Store, Google Play or web payment screen before purchase.
  • Subscriptions purchased in the app renew automatically. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase, and the subscription renews and is charged automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • You can manage or cancel the subscription in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings (via the in-app “Manage / cancel subscription” link). After cancellation you are not charged for the next period, and Premium remains active until the end of the period already paid.
  • Where a free trial or other promotion is offered, its duration and terms are shown on the purchase screen, and it may convert to a paid subscription under those terms.
  • “Restore purchases” reconnects existing purchases from the same store account and does not charge you again.
  • Web payments (PayApp, card or simple payment), where offered, buy one month of access and do not renew automatically; you need to pay again to continue after the period ends.
  • Deleting your app account does not cancel a store subscription. Please cancel it separately in the applicable store.

Article 7 (Withdrawal and Refunds)

  • Refunds for subscriptions purchased through the App Store or Google Play follow each store’s refund policy and are requested through Apple’s or Google’s refund process. The Company cannot cancel store payments directly but will guide you through the process where needed.
  • Web payments may be withdrawn within 7 days of payment if the content has not been used.
  • These Terms do not limit any rights users have under applicable consumer protection laws, including the Korean Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce.

Article 8 (AI Features and Limitations)

  • Gomgom’s questions, feedback, debate rebuttals, handwriting transcription and spoken replies are generated automatically by AI and are reference material to support learning.
  • AI output may contain inaccurate or unsuitable content or transcription errors, and the Company does not guarantee its accuracy or completeness. A guardian should review it together with the child.
  • Essay and debate feedback does not replace school grades, official assessments or professional educational advice.
  • The Service has safeguards that stop a conversation and return to the learning topic when it detects topics unsuitable for children, such as self-harm or violence, but it cannot guarantee that every unsuitable response is prevented.
  • Spoken replies use synthetic speech, not a live person.

Article 9 (User Content and Intellectual Property)

  • Rights in user content, such as writing and handwriting photos created by children and guardians, remain with their authors.
  • The Company uses user content only as needed to provide the Service, including transcription, generating AI responses, and storing and showing records and reports, and processes it as described in the Privacy Policy.
  • Please avoid including unnecessary personal details such as addresses, contact details or school names, or content that infringes others’ rights.
  • Rights in the Service’s content, including reading passages, the Gomgom character, design and software, belong to the Company or the rightful owners. Printed passages may be used only for personal learning at home.

Article 10 (Prohibited Conduct)

Users must not:

  • Use another person’s account or payment method, or submit false information in the guardian consent process
  • Bypass or disable safeguards such as the guardian check or kids reading mode
  • Enter or upload content that is illegal, obscene, violent or infringes others’ rights
  • Misuse AI features to elicit unsuitable responses, or use automated means to circumvent usage limits
  • Interfere with the normal operation of the Service, or attempt unauthorized access or reverse engineering
  • Copy, distribute or commercially exploit Service content without permission

Article 11 (Termination and Restrictions)

  • Guardians may terminate this agreement at any time by deleting the account from the account screen in the app. What is deleted is described in the Privacy Policy.
  • If a user violates Article 10 or applicable law, the Company may restrict use or terminate the agreement after giving notice. Where there is an urgent risk to child safety or service security, the Company may act first and notify afterwards.

Article 12 (Changes to and Suspension of the Service)

  • The Company may add, change or discontinue features for operational or technical reasons. Material changes unfavorable to users, or termination of the Service, will be announced in the app or on this page at least 30 days in advance.
  • The Company may temporarily suspend the Service for maintenance, failures, outages of external services or other unavoidable reasons.
  • If the Service ends, any remaining paid period will be handled under applicable law and each store’s policies.

Article 13 (Limitation of Liability)

  • The Company is not liable for damage that occurs without its intent or negligence, such as natural disasters, network failures, or outages of external services including app stores, cloud and AI providers.
  • The Company is not liable for decisions users make based on AI output unless the Company acted with intent or negligence.
  • Records stored only on a device may be lost if the app is deleted, the device is changed or storage fails. The Company is not liable for such loss absent its intent or negligence.
  • Where the Company’s intent or negligence causes damage to a user, the Company will compensate it as required by applicable law.

Article 14 (Changes to These Terms)

The Company may amend these Terms within the limits of applicable law and will announce the changes and their effective date in the app or on this page at least 7 days in advance (30 days for changes unfavorable to users). Guardians who do not agree may stop using the Service and delete their account.

Article 15 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction)

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Disputes relating to the Service will be resolved by the court of competent jurisdiction under the Korean Civil Procedure Act.
