Privacy Policy
Effective: October 14, 2026
Lion and the Lab ("we") provides Hanja Forest (the "app"). Study, writing, card collection and battle records are stored on the user's device, and the app can be used without signing in. Information reaches a server only when a parent chooses to use the optional parent account.
1. Information kept on the device only
- Each child's nickname and age (up to six children) and chosen animal companion
- Answers and review dates, completed character writing, level and vocabulary progress
- Experience, growth and decorations, battle scores and rewards, sound settings
A child's real name is not needed. Deleting the app or clearing its data removes these records. A backup code copied after the parent gate contains family, study and decoration records; copying it is not a server upload.
2. Optional parent account
- Data: the parent's email address and sign-in credentials (passwords are handled by the authentication service and are not visible to us)
- Purpose: parent sign-in, session upkeep and account deletion
- Child records: signing in does not upload a child's records. Cloud backup is not offered in the current release.
- Battle checks: while a parent is signed in, some battle rulings may be re-checked on the server using game data only (cards, companion, place, weather and battle progress). Nicknames, ages and voices are never included, and results are always computed by the rules bundled in the app.
3. Microphone and speech recognition (optional)
The app asks for microphone and speech permissions only when a child taps the voice button. Recognition uses the device's speech service (such as Apple or Google), which may process audio over the network under that provider's policy. The app does not save recordings or recognized text and does not send them to us.
4. Processors and international processing
Supabase, Inc. (USA) processes the parent email, sign-in data and game data for battle checks, to provide parent authentication, account deletion and battle checks, until the account is deleted (game data is not stored after a check). Its servers may be located outside Korea. Without a parent account, no information is transferred abroad.
We do not use advertising, advertising identifiers, analytics or crash-reporting tools. Narration (Typecast) and imaginative card descriptions (OpenAI) are prepared in advance and bundled in the app; no nickname, study record or voice is sent to either service.
5. Retention and deletion
- Device records: until the app or its data is deleted. We do not keep them.
- Parent account: deleting the account in the app removes the account and its server data without delay. Device records remain separately.
6. Children's privacy
Hanja Forest is designed for parents and children to use together. We do not collect personal information of children under 14 on our servers. The parent account, backup and restore, external links and previous-subscription management sit behind a parent gate. Parents can edit nicknames and ages in the parent space and may contact us to access, correct or delete information.
7. Your rights and contact
You may request access, correction, deletion or suspension of processing. The parent account can be deleted in the app; for other requests email contact@lionandthelab.com (Lion and the Lab). Please do not send passwords, verification codes or family backup codes.
8. Revision history
- 2026.10.14: Rewritten for the current Hanja Forest app (on-device storage, optional parent account, speech recognition, processor corrections)
- 2026.02.21: Initial version
The previous version (2026.02.21) was written for the app's earlier release as "Battle Simulator". The Firebase analytics, crash reporting and Google AdMob advertising it listed are not part of the current Hanja Forest app.
